Have a grocer cut a roast for teriyaki strips..Lay the strips out on a broiler pan, or on that new non stick aluminum (if using the aluminum you need to put it on an over rack, and press down a bit between the wires, to that it makes troughs, as on a broiler pan) . put it in your oven on the lowest setting overnight, or all day..Dry until it is still pliable...With shears, cut into tiny pieces, or long thin strips, and return to oven to dry until hard...Keep in tightly closed container. Only take out of fridge enough for a day or two at a time.

You could also feed the baby food little meat sticks (Junior food). they look like little weiners in a jar. to make them a longer lasting treat, cut them up and dry as for the meat strips above. they come in chicken or beef.

Just give them normal Purina Dog Chow and water.

Get two types of dog food, one for eating every day and one as a treat. Great money saver!

I got this from a dog trainer.Chicken Garlic Birthday Cake.1Chicken bouillon cube ,1cup whole wheat flour, 2 cups wheat germ, half a cup cornmeal, 2 eggs, half a cup veg. oil, 1 tablespoon minced garlic, 2 cups water, veg. oil spray and garlic flavor. Preheat oven to 375 . Dissolve bouillon cube in warm water. Combine flour, wheat germ, cornmeal, eggs, oil, garlic and water. Spray two cake pans with garlic flavored oil, and sprinkle with flour. Bake 50 minutes. After removing cake from oven, turn upside down and let cool.Makes two small cakes.

I order all of mine. I found a great website that has all natural healthy treats. My dog loves the freeze dried venison jerky (breaks into small pieces), freeze dried cod, Ocean Chews (dried sting ray tail), and most everything they have.

My 2 little dogs LOVE red and yellow and orange peppers. They are not crazy about green, I think its a bit bitter to them. They hang around the kitchen when I'm chopping. They also love broccoli. When ever I bake a chicken I always boil the gizzards and neck in a small pan for quite awhile then use the gizzards and broth for treats 2X's. I've bought a dog food, called turducken from the feed and seed store. Its a mixture of turkey, duck and chicken and they love it, but only as a special meal. I had turducken while working with FEMA in Louisiana with a very special family on Thanksgiving, I'm from SC. It was good.!!! Do not give anything rawhide especially for a little dog, it is terrible for them and includes a lot of store products and treats. Read labels. Good luck and sorry they get sick like that.

Chicken Soup is actaully a good dog food at a great price. I have fed my dog's that for awhile until we moved and I cannot find any retailers around here that sell it. But if you have to cut back, I would go with them. I think when I bought it, it evened out to about $1 per pound of food. And don't stress, everyone is feeling the money crunch right now. I am currently paying off Hospital Bills and have had to cut the dog's food to Pedigree for a few weeks until I get these paid off.

I feed mine dogs oatmeal and peanut butter. Make the oatmeal just like you would on the stove and add peanut butter while its hot and mix it up. Good stick to your ribs meal. Both oatmeal and peanut butter are very good for them but this does not replace food. Dogs have to have meat in their diet so fix them some hamburger and rice. I use it for upset tummys.

http://forums.petfinder.com/viewtopic.php?t=80732&highlight=recipe I found this link to some homemade treats. Also chicken is always a good treat. And my dogs love me to bits when ever I buy liverwurst. :) For a food, I would recommend a high quality food such as Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's soul, Natural Balance, Solid Gold, California Natural, Innova, Wellness. Stuff that is sold in the grocery store or superstore is junk. It is mainly fillers for the company to save money. Compare ingredients and you will see a big difference. :)
