Until the end of the nineteenth century, the Philippines were a Spanish colony. Like in all other Spanish colonies (Latin-America!) the Catholic Church was the only one allowed to actively and forcefully convert the local people. For that reason today the Philippines are mostly Catholic (in a charismatic way), with a Muslim minority on the southernmost islands. Also, among some of the still existing original tribes of hunters and gatherers, animism is still present.

You mean what religion do most Filipinos practice? A vast majority are Catholics, but there are a good number of Buddhists. In Mindanao (the southern part of the Philippines), there are many Muslims. There are also a few people who practice the different branches of Protestantism.
