Though I did not see it, I really wouldn't want to see it. I really think that the Japanese horror genre is terrible, and on top of that which is even worse is the American remakes of Japanese horror films. They are very formulaic and always use that same sort of violin sound to scare people. I would say that the best horror movies were the Italian one's of the 1970s, such as Dario Argento's Suspiria.

Definitely not predictable. As a mother of two daughters myself, I found the story line to be incredibly heartbreaking. I'm deeply affected by the loss of a child in the news or a movie or book because I fear, mostly irrationally, losing one of my own.

Dark Water was written by Hideo Nakata and Koji Suzuki who also wrote The Ring I and II. While The Ring scared the living crap out of me, The Ring Two left me squirming in my movie theatre seat only because I drank my pop too fast and had to pee. Another Japanese horror flick, The Grudge, had its skin-crawling moments to be sure, but again, left me wondering if it was worth the price of the ticket.

Japanese horror, or J-Horror, has been touted "intelligent horror" in that each picture is not simply a bunch of expensive special effects strung together. J-Horror is more psychological, it's supposed to make the audience wonder what the heck is going to happen next. Japanese horror also plays heavily on spiritual or religious elements of Japenese culture, which is why many films rely heavily on things like water or poltergeists.

If you're really into J-Horror, check out some of these titles (many of which I have in my DVD collection and my husband often asks "Like...why?"):

Infection (Kansen)
Suicide Club (Jisatsu Sakuuru)
Ju-on
Ringo
Premonition (Yogen)

It was OK...I honestly was expecting better. The plot was iffy and the movie had a couple of "suspense jump moments",and the end was honestly stupid. If I had to give it a vote from 5>1 5 being the best I would give it a 2....

It is not a very scary movie, it's quite predictable.

Jennifer Connley is a good actress but seems to choose some very bad films to star in. That being said I find that any film starring Connley will normally be just OK at best and down right awful at worst.

This can happen to anyone ..
outside · alone · in the sea ...
frightening. I don't want
to be there if it happens to me ...

It's entertaining but I didn't find it particularly suspenseful. It did have several "make you jump" moments.

It is a not so scary horror picture with Jennifer Connelly having to carry most of the plot. It was fair.

Stupid.
