From Wikipedia:The name "Godzilla" is a combination of two Japanese words: kujira (鯨, くじら) 'whale' and gorira (ゴリラ) 'gorilla'. The word alludes to the size, power and also aquatic origin of Godzilla.
And I know the last few answers are a bit insulting...
but I'd also like to know why you'd think "Godzilla" is Chinese, because it doesn't even sound anything remotely like Chinese.
