IF his post office bosses gave MANDATORY OVERTIME, then he MUST work it....and yes it's legal and often done lately in offices because downsizing has crippled a LOT of offices so much that now they have to pay the remaining workers MORE money to get more work done by LESS WORKERS...... we had mandatory overtime where I worked (state government) all the time...you worked it or you didn't work at all. VOLUNTARY overtime was also instituted in my office quite a lot but you weren't OBLIGATED to work it unless you wanted to... I worked sometimes 70-75 hours a WEEK when we were working overtime... made LOTS of good money too though....
