I can't figure out how to pass stage 7. Where do I target after I break formation from the other Cylon Raiders? I blew-up the "core" as listed in my "objectives" but there is one other thing I have to do before I blow up the core. I got the feeling there's someplace in the top of the base I have to destroy but the cannons keep on blowing me up when I attempt to do so.
Solved! The Plasma cannons on the top can't be destroyed. The solution is to simply move away from the base and destroy the cylons, there's 45 of them so keep away from the base and try to avoid flying in a straight line. Once ships are destroyed go behind an asteroid to restore your strength. From there you may do hit and run on the base by destroying one gun at the time and retrieting behind an asterioid to restore your strength-it's worth taking your time. When the guns are destroyed THEN target the core and then the two corners on the triangle shape on top, then it's centre which is awkward to target. The core gets repaired by the cylons after a while so destroy it again when the cylons say "weapon systems charged." destroy the core again. Then target the vents starting from the ones not facing the planet and ending with the vent next to the left hand side of the base's flat structure at it's side. To avoid being blown up speed toward the large planet to get to safety.
Tips:- Keep away from the base when dealing with the cylons but move in non-straight lines or the cylons can more easily "lock on" to you. Your weapons energy would not charge up if you hold the square button down all the time, this stops it from charging to levels you need to have enough energy to shoot missiles at cylon craft. Instead, hold it down just before you need to "lock on" to cylon craft. When destroying the cylons, it makes a difference to target the raider leaders first, switch targets by using the triangle key. To avoid being shot more easily, don't try, whenever possible not to fly in a straight line. This includes when your dealing only with the base itself and retrieting to behind the asteroid to restore your endurance. To stay perfectly still at times of need, (retrieting behind the asteroids or destroying the vents) tap the reverse thrusters (L1) twice)
When you blast the core, it will be repaired by the Cylons after a while, you will know this when you hear a Cylon saying:-"Weapon systems charged..." But the indestructable four cannons at the top don't SEEM to always be put out of temporary commission after destroying the core. Sometimes I see two of them firing. The target at the top of the base has to be hit at two corners before the top gets blown off in order to then deal with the centre of the triangle structure. It's awkward to hit, so I stay still and reverse, adjust angles, stay still as best I could directly above it. You'll hear Iphigenia's voice when you've succeeded and then target the vents.
WHEN ESCAPING TO A SAFE DISTANCE THE EASIEST WAY. There is a spine structure at the side of the whole base. After you destroy the last vent, the base will explode and you need to get to a safe distance. The best way to do this is to target the vent nearest to the right-hand side of the spine structure, "go around" and finish with the one at the left-hand side. The one at the left-hand side is nearest to the "escape route" you need to get to safety, so take the time to look where the main planet is (you need to speed off toward it, approximately between the right-hand edge and the centre) Then destroy the last vent when satisefied you know where to go. If you're speeding off toward the sun, move left. If you don't succeed in escaping the first time, above your target is the distance you need to escape, it may help you get to know where to go next time you play.
