Is sugar bad for dogs? My dog ate a bunch of jelly beans last night.?

if your dog made it through the nite, it'll be alright. sugar dosent really hurt them in short term- in long term it can cause worms. chocolate (baking chocolate namely) could cause them to have a heart attack or stroke. my beagle at a pound of oreos one night, the vet had us give her 3 tablespoons of peroxide to make her vomit. you need to watch out for grapes- they can be very toxic and lead to long term kidney failure and even death!
just thought id give you a heads up on things to watch for :-)

dogs are tough, so there probably won't be any harmful effects. i'd keep the sweets out of his/her reach in the future.

it will not kill him but it is bad and if he has had a lot of it it would be good right after u noticed he did u should give him some water or somthing like so it go all the way down or it will calm him down.

Sugar is in most of the 'soft' or 'chewy' dog foods, but is not good for them. It shouldn't be dangerous though, unless it is a tiny dog. If its a tiny, just watch for signs of hypoglycemia, (drowsyness or drunk )and give a bit of meat or peanut butter, low fat cheese, etc.

Sugar will rot their teeth.

All sorts of things are bad for dogs. That's why dog food is a booming industry. Don't feed scraps or any people food if you can help it. The dogs do better without it. And I am sure you want the dog to grow old with you, right? AVOID CHOCOLATE at all costs. It is toxic and can kill dogs.

Sugar is bad for dogs - it can hurt them a lot. My dog ate chocolate candies and her eyes started to become red and to started to water a lot.

Anything that is too salty, or sweet etc. is bad for dogs. They may be allergic to those food. It is best not to give dogs human food, it's better to stick to dog food. For a reminder, NEVER EVER give your dog human chocolate, it's TOXIC for them. Of course the dog ones are okay.

Its not good that dog's eat sugar. It can really lead to diabetes. Though if your dog only had a few it shouldn't be to bad. But, U might have some suvier side affects if your dog ate allot of it. This might include vomiting,Diereah,etc. But, if it was a one time thing I wouldn't be concerned about the diabetes but, The side affects I would. Your best bet is to stay home with your dog and be shure to give him or her alot of rest and potty time. Also I'd be sure to keep my dog hydrated. This will allow it to be alot easier on your dog. It will give your dog worms, however just this one time won't hurt I don't think...just don't make it a habit.

It isn't good for them,too much sugar can cause a case of diarrhea.Don't make a habit of it though,eating it everyday could lead to health problems.

Sugar is not good, but not as bad as chocolate. He will probably be okay, however, if you notice that he has diarhea or vomiting more than once, he will need to go to the vet for fluid therapy and perhaps some medicines to calm his stomach.

Sugar isn't really good for dogs, but a one time event won't be too bad. Just give him plenty of water, and rest, and potty time.

It's not good for dogs. He'll probably have some gas from all the sugar and be sure to let him out often to go to the bathroom.

Of course it's not ok for dogs to eat Jelly Beans. Contains alot of sugar...Just like chocolate. Same difference.
