A silly question. What's the difference between a pre-amp and a power amp? Thanks!?

a preamp adds tone, sometimes eq, and gets the signal ready for the power amp, which amplifies the signal to a level that is high enough to drive speakers.

pre is before, power powers it. duhhh.
