There is no critial answer for the word "BEST".
In my opinion, it is depends on the user-experienced,
and the functions user needs.

For beginner, I guess the best is BitComet which
is fully functional BT clients
(such as BT download, create)

For more experienced user, the Azaureus would be the best
choice because user can modify the source code to
suit their need. Also, it is OS independent which
can be use in most OS.

However, for me, I choose BitSpirit, because it
provides a unique ADSL anti-freeze function as I use ADSL
for internet connection. I experienced a connection
slow down when I start BT from other BT clients.

Other BT programs such as BitTorrent, Bittornado
provides different user interface which might be
a choice of other BT user.

I personally found that BitComet was the easiest to use. I also liked using Azureus, but some people don't like that one because it is Java based. BitComet allows you to browse various torrent sites right from the program. I found that quite useful myself. If I were to recommend, I would go with BitComet. This is my personal opinion, so just take it at that.

There is no such thing as best bittorrent client.

But still there are several options depending on your requirements.
1) If you are using a non windows OS u should try Azures, which is a java based platform independent client. But is is a very memory intensive program.
2)If u more consider about performance u can go for oficial bt client with the limitation of slower resume.
3)bitlord and bitcommet are very good in performance and faster resume but runs only in windows platforms. Bitlord is idealfor ADSL connections where you have limited upload rate.
4)A new BT client came recently was torrentspy client which I dont recomment you unless you need ur computer full of spyware and adware

Azureus

It can be found here:
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

Azureus is a Java based BitTorrent client, with support for I2P and Tor anonymous communication protocols. It currently supports Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Unix. Azureus was started at Sourceforge.net mostly to experiment with the Standard Widget Toolkit from Eclipse, in June 2003. It is possibly the most popular of all BitTorrent clients.

Azureus allows users to specify maximum upload and download speeds and is configurable like many other clients. Azureus also allows users to open some files that have been completed before the entire torrent from within the program. Additionally, Azureus can serve as its own tracker (the server which watches over the Bittorrent swarm), allowing users to share their own files with others without uploading it to any site. Azureus' functionality can be expanded via various plugins, one of the more popular being Country Locator.

I am using BitTorrent 4.1.4 and I get great download speeds. There's an upgrade but I heard that they put in some limitations for legal reasons in the new one so I'm staying away from that. I would go with that.

Steer clear of Morpheus.
